Laëtitia Atlani-Duault, HDR, est Directrice de recherche en anthropologie sociale à l’Institut de recherche pour le développement. (IRD), et Visiting Professor au département d’anthropologie d’Hunter-City University of New York, ainsi qu'à la School of Public Health de Columbia University.

Ses recherches portent sur l'anthropologique critique de l'aide humanitaire, et elle a reçu a reçu pour ses travaux la médaille de bronze du CNRS en anthropologie.

Elle dirige la plateforme de recherche ‘L’humanitaire dans la globalisation’ à la Fondation Maison des Sciences de l’Homme (FMSH) et la collection Le (bien) commun aux Editions de la Maison des Sciences de l'Homme. Elle enseigne à l'EHESS, est co-rédactrice en chef de la revue Socio et membre du Centre d'ethnologie et de sociologie comparative (CNRS/Université Paris-Ouest).

Short biography

Laëtitia Atlani-Duault, Ph.D, is Visiting Professor both at Columbia University - School of Public Health, and at Hunter CUNY - Social Anthropology Department, in New York, and is Directeur de recherche in Social Anthropology at the French National Institut de recherche pour le développement, in Paris. She is the Director of the FMSH Research Plateform ‘L’humanitaire dans la globalisation’, is a member of the Centre for Ethnology and Comparative Sociology (CNRS/Paris Ouest University) and teaches at the Ecole des Hautes Etudes en Sciences Sociales (EHESS). She is also director of a book series, Le (bien) commun, and co-editor-in-chief of a new social sciences journal, Socio, both at the Fondation Maison des Sciences de l’Homme.

Her research focus is the critical anthropology of humanitarian aid. She is the author of several books and has served as scientific editor of special issues of several journals (see below). Her articles have appeared, inter alia, in The Lancet: Social Science and Medicine; Culture, Medicine and Psychiatry; Transcultural Psychiatry; Public Understanding of Science; Ethnologie Française; the Lancet Infectious Diseases ; Tiers Monde, etc.

Laëtitia Atlani-Duault is the recipient of the prestigious Excellence in Research Award in Social Anthropology (médaille de bronze du CNRS) awarded by France’s National Centre for Scientific Research (CNRS).
